(Editor’s Note – The rumor has been going around as a result of hints in the agricultural press that the McIntyre Ranch south of Magrath is to be sold. This awakened the interest of the Herald, and in the interest of the Herald, and in view of the fact that much early history of old time south Alberta ranches has been lost through the retirement and removal from the district or through the death of the original owners we asked Mr. McIntyre to write “The Story of the McIntyre Ranch”. This he kindly consented to do, and it will appear on this page serially this week. The McIntyre Ranch was established 53 years ago by Mr. McIntyre’s father. William H. McIntyre, whose ranching experience started in Texas about 1870 and ran the gaunt all through the Mountain States to Alberta. It is believed to be the oldest of the larger Alberta ranches in point of continuous family ownership. The Ranch today is some 160,000 acres in extent, and carries about 7500 head of cattle, thought to be now the largest in Alberta and one of the largest in all Canada.)
